Pharmacist assessment and treatment support for eligible women with UTI symptoms

Overview

Our pharmacy can assess uncomplicated urinary tract infection symptoms for eligible women and provide treatment through NHS Pharmacy First when clinically appropriate.

About uncomplicated UTI care

Uncomplicated UTI commonly causes discomfort, burning when passing urine, and urgency. Early treatment and hydration advice can help reduce symptom burden and prevent progression.

We assess symptoms and provide the right next step safely.

  • Clinical assessment by a pharmacist
  • NHS treatment supply where criteria are met
  • Self-care guidance, hydration advice, and safety-netting
  • Referral to GP/urgent care when needed

Eligibility

  • Women meeting NHS Pharmacy First UTI pathway criteria
  • Symptoms must be uncomplicated and suitable for pharmacy care
  • No signs of severe infection or systemic illness

NHS funded

Available under NHS Pharmacy First criteria.

When to seek urgent care

If you develop fever, flank/back pain, vomiting, or feel very unwell, seek urgent care as this may indicate a more serious infection.
