Sinusitis Treatment

Effective treatment for acute sinusitis symptoms

UK Patients Only

Overview

Gilbert & Johnson Pharmacy provides treatment for acute sinusitis through our private prescribing service. Our pharmacists can assess your symptoms and provide appropriate treatment to relieve sinus pain, congestion, and infection.

What is Sinusitis?

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses — air-filled spaces behind the forehead, cheeks, and eyes. It usually follows a cold and causes facial pain, nasal congestion, and thick nasal discharge. Acute sinusitis typically lasts 2-4 weeks. While most cases resolve on their own, some may require antibiotics if caused by a bacterial infection.

Important Information

This service is for acute sinusitis only. Chronic sinusitis (lasting more than 12 weeks) requires GP investigation. Do not use decongestant nasal sprays for more than 7 days as they can cause rebound congestion. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have other medical conditions, please inform our pharmacist.

When to See Your GP

See your GP urgently if you have severe facial swelling, high fever, severe headache, vision changes, or if symptoms are getting significantly worse. These may indicate a serious complication that requires immediate medical attention.

Frequently asked questions

Most sinusitis cases are viral and don't need antibiotics. However, if symptoms last more than 10 days, are severe, or are getting worse after initial improvement, antibiotics may be appropriate. Our pharmacist will assess your case.
